A California paramedic has been charged with sexual battery after sexually assault a teenage girl who suffered a seizure.
Jared Evans, 32, who has worked for the Sacramento Fire Department for two years, allegedly sexually assaulted a 19-year-old girl while she was strapped to a stretcher in the back of his ambulance on April 1, KCRA reported.
The alleged assault was reported by an intern who was working with Evans.
According to the court documents, Evans stuck his hand into the teen’s shirt, pulled her breast out of her bra while she was “completely unresponsive to pain and verbal commands, she was out.”
He then put her breast back in her bra and told the intern, “Sorry man, I had to,” according to the documents.
“When these allegations were brought to the attention of fire administration, we immediately notified the office of public safety and accountability and requested a full law enforcement investigation,” Walt White, the chief of the Sacramento Fire Department, said in a statement, according to KCRA.
“The Sacramento Fire Department takes all citizen complaints seriously, and works quickly to take appropriate actions to mitigate them,” he said. “Although the case is ongoing, and all facts are not yet known, the Sacramento Fire Department wants to assure the public that we are fully cooperating with the investigation, and working to bring the matter to a successful conclusion.”
According to the documents, Evans fondled the teen “for the specific purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification or sexual abuse,” and not to render medical care.
The incident was reported by the intern on April 16 and police began their investigation two days later, KCRA reported.
The teen told police that even though she was immobile and her eyes were closed, she heard and felt everything.
She told police that she heard Evans comment that she had big breasts and then felt him grope her.
Evans has denied the accusations.
He was booked and released on $3,000 bail after turning himself in to authorities on Monday and is on paid administrative leave.
