UK officials finally consider banning the burka, yanking citizenship, other measures to stem tide

In the wake the third deadly Islamic terror attack on British soil within 10 weeks, U.K. lawmakers and officials are considering some controversial measures to stem the tide of violence.

Suggestions include banning the wearing of burkas and even stripping away citizenship of certain individuals.

Sources told Fox News that after Saturday’s London Bridge attack that left seven dead and dozens wounded, it’s become “all hands at the pump” with British agencies, including MI5, Scotland Yard, the Army’s Special Air Service (SAS) and the Joint Intelligence Operations all working in collaboration.

Speaking Sunday at a press conference, British Prime Minister Theresa May said “while we have made significant progress in recent years,” she acknowledged that “there is to be frank far too much tolerance of extremism in our country.”

Suggestions to reverse the tide include beefing up counterterrorism efforts with the addition of more officers and bringing in suspected terrorists and stripping away their British citizenship if convicted.

Also under consideration is something that has been debated in the U.K. for more than a decade.

“There is also early talk that things could go as far as banning the burka,” the source told Fox News.

“It is just whispers at the moment, but if that goes live, one would guess that it will be enforced across the U.K.”

Officials are also reportedly looking into breaking up Muslim-only neighborhoods in an effort to force immigrants to assimilate into British society.

“There are a lot of Muslim strongholds in the U.K. from London and Luton to Birmingham, Burnley and Blackburn,” the intelligence source said. “Right now, through weak policies, we have allowed the fundamentalists to spoil it for the majority.”

In answer to the prime minister’s call Sunday that the Internet must no longer be used as a “safe space” for extremism, there are also suggestions to “force large Internet companies to ban extremist material on their search engines and additionally report any content that they find.”
