President Donald Trump vowed that Iran would not make good on threats against Israel as long as he is in the White House.
Speaking at Jerusalem’s Israel Museum Tuesday as part of his overseas trip, the president made it clear that he is no Barack Obama, declaring that he would stand up to Iran and prevent its development of a nuclear weapon.

“Israelis have experienced firsthand the hatred and terror of radical violence,” he said. “Israelis are murdered by terrorists wielding knives and bombs. Hamas and Hezbollah launch rockets into Israeli communities where schoolchildren have to be trained to hear the sirens and run to the bomb shelters — with fear, but with speed. ISIS targets Jewish neighborhoods, synagogues, and storefronts. And Iran’s leaders routinely call for Israel’s destruction.
“Not with Donald J. Trump, believe me.”
The audience applauded and gave Trump one of the many standing ovations he received during his speech.
“Thank you. I like you too,” he said as the crowd laughed.
Trump thanked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others for their hospitality as, he said, the U.S. and Israel “reaffirm the unshakable bond” between them. Netanyahu, who sat nearby during the speech, announced that “Israel will never have a better friend than the United States of America” as he introduced Trump.

The president began his speech with a moment to offer condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack in Manchester. He doubled down on his call to “drive out” those responsible for “heinous attacks upon humanity.”
“I repeat again that we must drive out the terrorists and the extremists from our midst, obliterate this evil ideology, and protect and defend our citizens and people of the world,” Trump said to applause.
He also commented on the different U.S.-Israel relationship under his presidency.
“America’s security partnership with Israel is stronger than ever. Under my administration, you see the difference — big, big beautiful difference,” he said, drawing some laughter from the audience which understood his comment.
“Conflict cannot continue forever. The only question is when nations will decide that they have had enough — enough bloodshed, enough killing,” the president said, noting that he spoke to dozens of Muslim leaders over the weekend about the threat that Iran poses and vowing that the U.S. would stand against the Muslim nation’s attempts to develop nuclear power.
