Washington Post Fact Checker columnist Glen Kessler took to social media to boast that the newspaper’s “scoop” on President Donald Trump allegedly sharing classified information with Russian diplomats who were visiting the president last week in the Oval office broke a record for online traffic.
Never mind that National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster has since refuted the claim made by an anonymous source, insisting that it was “wholly appropriate” for Trump to be discussing the information he shared.
“The president in no way undermined sources or methods in the course of this conversation,” McMaster said Tuesday.

Regardless, Kessler was in a celebratory mood Monday afternoon: “Applause in the newsroom as the Russia-leak scoop breaks the Hollywood Access record for most readers per minute,” he tweeted.

The Access Hollywood reference is to the tape released during the 2016 presidential campaign of Trump engaging in locker room banter with Billy Bush, when he uttered the infamous “grab ’em by the p*ssy” line.
Turns out, Kessler wasn’t finished touting thier effort, following his first tweet up with this correction:

By now, the dye has been cast in a scheme to undermine President Trump: A never ending number of anonymous sources make outlandish claims and a major media outlet runs with it, setting off a lighting quick feeding frenzy.
By the time the White House is able to get in front of the story, the damage has been done. As Winston Churchill once said: “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”
This ongoing endeavor by the media to destroy Trump was aptly characterized as a “bloodsport” by Matt Drudge, who responded Tuesday on Twitter to Kessler’s tweet:
