White House counselor Kellyanne Conway slammed CNN’s Anderson Cooper over his condescending eyeroll during a recent interview, calling the gesture “sexist” and “Trumpist.”
Conway said anti-Trump bias and sexism has caused many media personalities like Cooper to behave unprofessionally toward her and anyone associated with the Trump administration.
“He rolled his eyes, possibly sexist—definitely what I call Trumpist,” Kellyanne told Fox News host Howard Kurtz. “Many people who go on TV are treated like house guests. And then when we go on TV, we’re not.”
Conway said the media’s desire to create moments that will go “viral” on social media has eroded the professionalism of the press, who now realize they can make news themselves by saying or doing something outrageous toward Trump team members.
“A lot of people want things to go viral,” she said. “They think that’s the job of the news media now, when it’s not … It really doesn’t help democracy. Because people are looking for the news. They’re not looking for conjecture. They don’t care that something goes viral.”
Conway said the media scours President Trump’s every tweet and comment in order to find ways to undermine, embarrass and discredit him instead of focusing on actual NEWS that Americans care about, such as jobs.
“The obsession with every tweet and every comment [is ridiculous],” Conway said. “And not covering the jobs numbers, not covering the amazing trade deal that we just made with China? That’s news!”
This isn’t the first time Conway—the first woman in history to run a winning GOP presidential campaign—has faced sexism from the biased press. Conway said the liberal media sides with Hillary Clinton when she blames sexism for her election loss, while acting misogynistically toward her.
“Let me tell you something: Hillary Clinton is in search of sexism as a lame excuse for why her disastrous candidacy and campaign lost six months ago,” Conway told Fox & Friends. “I face sexism a lot of times when I show up for interviews.”
Conway continued: “Can you imagine rolling your eyes? Having a male anchor on a network roll his eyes at Hillary Clinton, a female representative for President Obama or President Bill Clinton? I think not.”
