A North Carolina school district decided to cancel yearbooks featuring a quote by President Donald Trump because they thought it was offensive.
Yearbooks already distributed at the Richmond Early College High School were yanked back by the school after concluding that some senior quotes shared in the books were “inappropriate,” according to The Charlotte Observer.

Some graduating seniors at the school, which has 259 students, found the quotes they chose to share under their yearbook photo created controversy, according to district spokeswoman Ashley-Michelle Thublin.

That apparently included one highly offensive quote by Trump. “Build that wall,” shared by one female graduating senior along with her yearbook photo.
The backlash began when the photo and quote were circulated on social media, as students and others called it racist and hurtful to minority classmates.
The Richmond County Schools Facebook page announced the “mistake” and said students would be reimbursed and no student would be disciplined. Only a handful of the 22 pre-ordered yearbooks had been distributed before the principal noticed the “errors” and confiscated them.
“As a district, we do not and will not tolerate inappropriate conduct toward any of our students,” the school district said in its post. “In each situation, our goal is to provide for the well-being of all of our students and prevent recurrences of inappropriate conduct.”
The school did not provide specific examples of the offending quotes, according to the Observer. With only days left before the end of the school year, there was not enough time to reprint the books, according to Thublin.

So the few who were triggered by what they personally saw as inappropriate and offensive quotes that graduating seniors chose to add to photos of themselves prevented the entire student body from enjoying a collection that captured the year’s memories.
Social media users slammed the decision on Twitter.

@dhrxsol1234 @Ronin1021 I think a lot of kids need to put this in yearbooks and show the world how stupid a school district can be

@DRUDGE_REPORT No school has the right to turn their back on the president or country, shame on them for taking away free speech and not teaching respect

@DRUDGE_REPORT I’m quite confident a quote from the left would be fine though.

@DRUDGE_REPORT Is the president of the United States. How can quoting him be offensive? The only thing offensive is the school pandering to liberals.
