And now, more winning.
The number of illegal border crossings continued to plummet under President Donald Trump, reaching another historic low in April.
According to new data released by US Customs and Border Protection on Tuesday, apprehensions at the US-Mexico border last month dropped 5 percent from March and 68 percent from the same period last year, Fox News reported.

That decrease was due to a “change in our enforcement policy,” according to Department of Homeland security spokesman David Lapan.

“People in Central America are waiting and watching what happens rather than taking the long journey,” Lapan said. “When you get here, it’s likely you will be caught and returned to your country. We’re going to enforce the laws.”

Data showed a total of 11,129 people stopped from illegally crossing the Southern border in April. The number shows a decrease from the 12,196 who were apprehended in March and a continuing downward trend since President Trump was inaugurated.
The April numbers were the lowest in 17 years of available data from US Customs and Border Protection.

And, while Trump’s strong rhetoric against illegal immigration and a demands for a secure border wall have played a part, the accompanying policies have been an important factor in the sharp decline of border crossings.

“It’s more just that,” Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, said according to Lifezette. “It’s also the policy that is backing up that message. The Obama administration said a lot of the same things, perhaps in a more legalistic way … It appears more and more likely this is the new normal.”

Weather and economics can cause fluctuations in the number of border crossings with apprehensions usually increasing in the summer months.

But the numbers since Trump took office showed an “unprecedented decline” of 40 percent just in February, according to a statement from Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly in March. In contrast, around election time, officials recorded 47,213 apprehensions last November, according to Fox News.
