A Democratic Texas lawmaker became the butt of jokes when she announced Sunday that she was going on a three-day hunger strike to protest the state’s proposed sanctuary city bill.

State Rep. Victoria Neave made the pledge after attending Mass at downtown Dallas’ Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, announcing that the communion wafer she received would be the last meal she will have until the bill is debated on Wednesday.
“I want people to know how terrible this law is,” she said, according to the Dallas News.
The bill would ban cities, counties and universities from preventing local law enforcement agencies asking about a person’s immigration status or enforcing immigration law.
The Dallas News reported:
The proposal would charge local law enforcement officials with a class A misdemeanor if they don’t comply with federal immigration authorities. The House’s version of the bill eliminates a Senate provision that would cut state funding to the entities whose officials are punished.
Folks on social media thought three days was more of a diet than a “hunger strike.”

“At this point, we’re hoping for a miracle,” she said.
A miracle would do it, but a hunger strike? Nope.
