Well, we can give him this: At least he owns up to his mistakes.
New York Times sports editor Jason Stallman thought he was being cute when he published composite photos of the New England Patriots’ White House visits — one taken Wednesday placed underneath one taken in 2015.

Both visits were to celebrate the team’s Super Bowl victories, and the intent was to illustrate that more team members showed up at the Obama White House than were there for the Donald Trump White House.
Andrea Tantaros thrust back in the spotlight, and like everyone else… she’s coming with a lawsuit
The Patriots immediately smacked down the Times, letting the paper know that the comparison was unfair. The 2015 photo included Patriots staff members that Wednesday’s photo did not.
Stallman admitted he’d made a big mistake to Yahoo News.
“Bad tweet by me,” he told Yahoo. “I’m an idiot.” But he’s at least an honest one. Yahoo politics editor Colin Campbell reported:
NYT Sports editor gave me a pretty effusive statement on that Trump/Patriots-crowd-size-comparison tweet: pic.twitter.com/yrvyuCPybp

Apologetic or not, most people weren’t satisfied and wondered why Stallman made the inaccurate comparison in the first place.

@colincampbell So why did he seek to make the comparison to begin with? Apart from being wrong, it’s that q that’s important to bias.

@colincampbell @CillizzaCNN This is all so dumb and petty! No should surprise that NYT leaves out facts & also no surprise that there were in fact less players NOT NEWS
— Thankful American (@kimmie_rs) April 20, 2017
@colincampbell @dmanolli NEVER should have opened his mouth before he had all of the facts! They do it just to cause trouble! THAT’S the problem with the media!

Others observed that the Times hadn’t deleted the original photo comparison.
5 hrs later, photo still not pulled down @colincampbell

@Operation_Ryan @colincampbell @neontaster Weird how they’re refusing to delete the tweet though….
— Becca H (@LadyOnTheRight1) April 20, 2017
@colincampbell If true, why not just delete the tweet and tweet that you deleted a wrong tweet? AP does it all the time.

But still, in an age when the term “fake news” is bandied about every day, others on social media appreciated Stallman’s honesty.
@colincampbell @neontaster NYT Sports Editor takes the uncomfortable, but honorable high road on a flub. Mad props for serious adulting:

@colincampbell @thegarance Amazingly complete apology.
— Martha Wilson (@CarpoolPolitics) April 20, 2017
@colincampbell @Stephe96 And this is what any good journalist does when he or she makes a mistake: own it, fix it, learn from it. Nothing partisan about it.

During the Patriots visit Wednesday, things got laugh-out-loud funny when the White House press briefing was interrupted by team tight end Rob Gronkowski, who stuck his head into the door to ask Sean Spicer if he needed any assistance.
Latest Bill O’Reilly accuser may look familiar, but her lawyer’s statement is truly an eye-opener
One no-show for the visit was quarterback Tom Brady — a huge Trump fan. He said he had personal matters that needed attention that day, which prompted wild speculation on social media.
