Democrats are doing everything they can do spin the race to replace Tom Price in Georgia’s 6th district as some sort of referendum against President Trump. They were just sure that Democrat Jon Ossoff, whom Dems overwhelmingly got behind, would pull off over 50 percent of the vote and seal the victory by avoiding a run-off.
But that’s not what happened. Instead, Ossoff got around 48 percent of the vote, about what Hillary Clinton received in the district last year.
So, essentially Ossoff outperformed Clinton by 1.4% — that is nowhere anywhere even approximating a rebuke of Trump. pic.twitter.com/WL9lHAGCHl

Republicans, on the other hand, split just over 50 percent of the vote between several candidates, which means one of them, Karen Handell, will face Ossoff alone in June.
It’s not over yet, but everyone knows Ossoff may very likely have missed his chance to pull the upset since he will now have to face a united Republican electorate.
During Sean Spicer’s Wednesday White House briefing, NBC reporter Hallie Jackson tried to turn a lemon into lemonade by asking if the president was “expending too much political capital on a race that Republicans should be winning easily.”
To which Spicer responded: “I thought that some of the coverage was a little intriguing as I watched it. Suddenly, the Democrats went all in on this race. They spent over $8.3 million. They said on the record that their goal was to win this race. They lost. And the reaction has somewhat been, you know, that they almost won.
“No, they lost.”
When Jackson mentioned the fact that a runoff is still schedule for June, Spicer said, “No, not in terms of what their stated goal was. They said that their goal last night was to win the race with over 50%….They didn’t run for a runoff, they ran to win last night, and they lost. And so, anything sort of describing that as a loss is – is sort of inconceivable to me in the sense that that’s literally what they said their goal was to do….They put all the money that they had in there, they put all the firepower, and they came up short.
“So, it’s a loss.”
