Tomi Lahren sues Glenn Beck; The Blaze fires back

Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against The Blaze and its founder, Glenn Beck, two weeks after she was banned for flip-flopping her stance on abortion.

In her complaint, Lahren accused Beck of publicly smearing her “in a clear attempt to embarrass, humiliate, and undermine” her.

Tomi Lahren sued the Blaze after Glenn Beck said she lacked intellectual depth.

Lahren is also suing for control of her Facebook page, which The Blaze and Glenn Beck own under the express terms of her employment contract.

Lahren — whose contract expires in September — is still being paid by The Blaze, and is not allowed to work elsewhere until then.

This is standard, as you can see by the fact that former Fox News host Megyn Kelly is still not working on her new NBC show even though she left Fox in January 2017. Kelly’s contract ends in June 2017; she is being paid by Fox until then and is not allowed to work for its competitors during that time.

The Blaze responded to Tomi Lahren’s lawsuit by saying it doesn’t make sense, as the Daily Caller reported: “It is puzzling that an employee who remains under contract (and is still being paid) has sued us for being fired, especially when we continue to comply fully with the terms of our agreement with her.”

There’s apparently a dispute over whether Lahren was in fact “fired” when she’s still being paid and under contract.

The lawsuit is a bitter end to Lahren’s meteoric career at The Blaze, which hired her as a 22-year-old recent college graduate and made her a star by giving her her own TV show in November 2015.

Lahren’s good looks, sex appeal, and outspoken personality quickly caught the attention of conservatives and the media.

She has since made numerous guest appearances on Fox News and appeared on “The View” on March 17, where she stunned its liberal audience by revealing she’s pro-choice.

Lahren, 24, also enraged conservatives — the loyal fan base that made her a star — by suggesting that pro-life conservatives are hypocrites: “I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government, but I think the government should decide what women do with their bodies,” she said.

Lahren was immediately slammed by many conservative Republicans, many of whom oppose abortion. Tomi’s pro-abortion stance was especially surprising because she had condemned abortion as “murder” and “baby killing” just three months earlier:

Many conservatives accused Lahren of being an unprincipled flip-flopper who changed her stance to support abortion because she was pandering to “The View’s” liberal co-hosts.

After that incident, the scales fell from many people’s eyes, with former Tomi fans questioning if she ever had any principles or was merely parroting conservative viewpoints because it made her popular.

While Lahren is spinning her firing as a violation of her free-speech rights, employment law favors The Blaze, noted. The Blaze underscored that Lahren was not dismissed because she’s pro-choice (as she claims), but arguably because she violated her contract, which says she can be fired for making her employer look bad or for offending The Blaze’s audience:

The wording reads: “[Lahren can be fired for] conduct or involvement in a situation that brings Employee into public disrespect, offends the community or any group thereof, or embarrasses or reflects unfavorably on TBI’s reputation.”

“The Blaze cannot be about me, me, me, me,” founder Glenn Beck said.

“Her stance could offend a ‘group’ of the community, especially their audience, so that might be grounds to claim she breached the contract,” employment law attorney Mike Delikat told LawNewz.

Lahren’s abortion flip-flop has caused a rift among conservatives, many of whom dislike Glenn Beck.

Diehard Tomi fans said they’ll stick by her no matter what, while others feel she conned them into supporting her when, in fact, she has no real principles and her star power is based entirely on blonde hair extensions and hollow bombast.

Meanwhile, insiders told Red State that Tomi Lahren was a nightmare to work with: “Stories of her yelling at the makeup team, screaming at an employee for not ‘heating up her butt warmer’ before air, and a general ‘disdain’ towards her staff have surfaced in the wake of Lahren’s recent announcement on ‘The View’ that she is pro-abortion.”

Glenn Beck appeared to confirm rumors that Lahren was difficult. “The Blaze cannot be about me, me, me, me,” Beck said. “Media should not be about me, me, me, me.”
