‘F’ is for … Video of Elmo getting let go from Sesame Street after PBS cuts goes viral fast

News of President Donald Trump’s proposed budget cuts has apparently reached the residents of Sesame Street.

A new video parody featuring Elmo getting laid off has been posted by the What’s Trending Facebook page and has been viewed over 8 million times.

“Poor Elmo,” the post status reads. “Due to cuts in funding to PBS, our favorite furry monster is out of work. #ParodyElmo.”

“Just like that? Elmo has been working at Sesame Street for 32 years!” Elmo replied in the video after being told that “due to recent cuts in government funding to PBS” he was no longer employed. The off-camera voice told Elmo that “the Trump administration is gutting ALL arts and education funding.”

The furry monster then worried about paying his rent and how he will get health insurance due to pre-existing conditions.

The Trump administration has been considering plans to drastically cut the budget that would directly affect funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Panicked Sesame Street messages forget to mention that PBS handed over the reins of the iconic show to HBO back in 2015.

The parody sparked many social media meltdowns but also comments about its over-dramatic message.

Apparently using the Sesame Street characters is seen as an effective emotional tool to slam the administration.

A video on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last week showed Trump on “Celebrity Apprentice” firing Big Bird.
