Chelsea Clinton’s new children’s book sings the praises of famous women and has a title inspired by a political sweetheart of feminists.
And no, it’s not her mother.
The new children’s picture book by the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton boasts the title, “She Persisted,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

The title seems to be an apparent nod to Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren who was shut down at a Senate debate over then-Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions last month.
“She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell explained later, which led to #ShePersisted becoming a trending hashtag on Twitter. Feminists have taken the phrase as a rallying cry and it has even become a popular tattoo for some women who are protesting what they see as discrimination.

According to EW:
Illustrated by Alexandra Boiger (Max and Marla), She Persisted will tell the stories of 13 women who overcame immense opposition to achieve their goals. The 13 women include Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, Nellie Bly, Maria Tallchief, Claudette Colvin, Clara Lemlich, Ruby Bridges, Margaret Chase Smith, Sally Ride, Florence Griffith Joyner, Oprah Winfrey, and Sonia Sotomayor. The picture book will also feature a cameo by another important female figure. (We’ve got a pretty good guess as to who this candidate might be…)
“I wrote this book for everyone who’s ever wanted to speak up but has been told to quiet down, for everyone who’s ever been made to feel less than,” Clinton said in a statement. “The 13 women in She Persisted all overcame adversity to help shape our country—sometimes through speaking out, sometimes by staying seated, sometimes by captivating an audience. With this book, I want to send a message to young readers around the country—and the world—that persistence is power.”
The book is due to hit bookstores on May 30.
Twitter users had mixed reactions but many thought the book was another indication that the young Clinton was gearing up to run for political office. Others just wanted the media’s constant Chelsea drumbeat to stop already.
