Brit Hume called out Meryl Streep and others who brand President Donald Trump and his supporters as Nazis.
They are “spectacularly ill-informed and nearly hysterical,” Hume told host Bill O’Reilly on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday.
Following Streep’s anti-Trump rant last month at the Golden Globe Awards, the actress vowed to stand up to those who leveled backlash at her for her criticism.

“It’s terrifying to put the target on your forehead, and it sets you up for all sorts of attacks and armies of brownshirts and bots and worse, and the only way you can do it is to feel you have to,” Streep said, speaking at the Human Rights Campaign’s Greater New York Gala in New York City on Sunday.

Streep’s characterization of those who criticized her as Adolf Hitler’s “brownshirts” is “inappropriate,” O’Reilly said, noting that the paramilitary organization within the Nazi party was so violent that eventually Hitler had the group’s leadership killed.
Hume referred to his own experience of being attacked by Trump supporters when he said critical things during the election campaign but added that “it never occurred” to him to draw an analogy between them and anyone connected to Hitler’s Nazis.
Hume suggested that Streep’s comments were a “signal” to those at the gala that “she is one of them.”
“She wants them to believe, I guess, that she is courageous for taking on Donald Trump and she’s been subjected to this Nazi-like behavior,” Hume said, adding that it is not uncommon to hear these “not-so veiled references to fascism and Nazism in connection with Donald Trump.”
Chuck Schumer wants to know more about Trump targeting ‘law-abiding innocent’ illegals. Hmmm . . .
In addition, he noted that Streep’s speech, however inappropriate, is “not too far off” than what’s being said by some of Trump’s conservative critics.
