Even the libs got it: The irony of the Patriots’ 4th quarter comeback made Trump fans giddy

On the world’s biggest stage, down 25 points in the second half of Super Bowl LI?

No worries.

It’s almost as if Tom Brady and the New England Patriots waited until the third quarter on purpose to start the heroics, as if to create some drama where none arguably existed in the first place. And once the now four-time Super Bowl MVP started carving up the Falcons with ruthless efficiency, only those who hadn’t watched him and his Patriots do this dozens of times before had any doubt as to what the outcome was going to be.

Well, maybe it seems that way in hindsight, but in reality, down 25, few believed in the Patriots’ chances to come back and even make the game competitive, much less win it. And they had history on their side. Exactly zero teams had ever returned from the 19 point deficit the Patriots faced at the start of the fourth quarter. In fact, when the Patriots went down by 25, ESPN’s win probability pegged the Falcons with a 99.7 percent chance of winning the game.

About the same chances some polling sources gave Donald Trump to defeat Hillary Clinton last November, and we all know how that turned out.

Even Donald Trump Jr. and pollster Nate Silver caught the irony:

I mean, were we even going to have a Super Bowl winner last night? Cue John Podesta!

Considering both Trump and the Patriots both have now overcome tremendous odds to win their respective “championships,” the links between the two are more than a little ironic, and timely.

From BizPac Review’s coverage of the Trump/Patriots connection:

It has become Team President Donald Trump versus everyone else.

Many Patriots insiders have made their affection for the president known time and time again.

In Sept. 2015 a reporter spotted a “Make America Great Again” hat in Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady’s locker.

This week Brady resisted calls by leftists to denounce his friendship with the president.

When the Patriots won their most recent Super Bowl, the star quarterback did not go to the White House to meet President Obama.

Team owner Robert Kraft also came under fire after he revealed how President Trump helped get him through one of the toughest patches of his life.

When running back James White scored the game winning touchdown in overtime, the Patriots had their fifth Super Bowl trophy with a thrilling 34-28 win, making Trump only two points off his Bill O’Reilly prediction of a Patriots win by eight.

Even these libs got it:
