Protests sweep airports across the country over Trump’s immigration action

Protests broke out Saturday at airports across the country in response to President Donald Trump’s executive action barring travel from seven predominantly Muslim nations — a move taken to prevent Islamic extremists from entering the U.S.

And while the order was short lived — a federal judge granted an emergency stay in favor of a habeas corpus petition filed by the American Civil Liberties Union — the story got major play on cable news outlets throughout the day.

Protesters began to gather at New York City’s JFK Airport when people with visas and green cards were detained there as a result of the order — this led to other protests popping up around the country.

The protesters denouncing Trump were far more critical than one man directly affected by the order. Hameed Darweesh, who worked as a translator for the U.S. Army in Iraq, was detained Friday at JFK Airport.

After being released on Saturday, Darweesh was asked by a reporter what he had to say to Trump. He replied, “I like him.”
