As the sands ran out on President Obama’s time in office, he took to Twitter to make some final remarks and called on his supporters to take action.
Newly sworn in President Donald Trump will take over the @POTUS account with his own tweets and Obama’s tweets as president will become archived under @POTUS44.
In his final hours on that official Twitter account, Obama wrote about “truth and justice” and the honor of serving as president.
It’s been the honor of my life to serve you. You made me a better leader and a better man.
— President Obama (@POTUS) January 20, 2017
I won’t stop; I’ll be right there with you as a citizen, inspired by your voices of truth and justice, good humor, and love.
— President Obama (@POTUS) January 20, 2017
He mean it when he said he wouldn’t stop.
Next, Obama posted a message about looking ahead and urged people to “share your thoughts with me” at the website obama.org, where he and Michelle recorded a video about what is in store for them as they leave the White House.
The Obamas announced their plans to open a “living, working center for citizenship” that will be based in Chicago. Michelle then called it a “Presidential center” and asked their followers to send their ideas and hopes for change.
As we look forward, I want our first steps to reflect what matters most to you. Share your thoughts with me at https://t.co/fGUxlpLVue.

“After eight years in the White House, Michelle and I now rejoin all of you as private citizens,” Obama said in the video. “We want to thank you once again from the bottom of hearts for giving us the incredible privilege of serving this country that we love.”

In his last tweet, Obama hearkened back to his campaign and presidential theme of change.
I’m still asking you to believe – not in my ability to bring about change, but in yours. I believe in change because I believe in you.

The White House also posted a final tweet featuring a 2015 photo of the first family from Selma, Alabama marking the 50th anniversary of civil rights marches.
Yes we can.
Yes we did.

Obama’s call to action reiterated his promise that he “will not stop.”
Seems he learned nothing from the respectful model of behavior his predecessor, former President George W. Bush, left him on his inauguration day in 2009.
