Giving the impression — once again — that he may be at the wrong network, Fox News’ Shepard Smith made a curious decision to come to the defense of competitor CNN after President-elect Donald Trump blasted the cable news network as “fake news.”
No fan of Trump’s, Smith weighed in following a combative exchange between the president-elect and CNN reporter Jim Acosta at a news conference Wednesday, prompted by a far-reaching BuzzFeed article that included a dossier detailing salacious, unsubstantiated rumors about Trump.

“President-elect Trump today told CNN’s Jim Acosta the his organization amounts to fake news,” Smith began. “CNN’s exclusive reporting on the Russian matter was separate and distinctly different from the document dump executed by an online news property.”
“Though we at Fox News cannot confirm CNN’s report,” he continued, “it is our observation that its correspondents follow journalistic standards and that neither they nor any other journalists should be subjected to belittling or de-legitimizing by the President-elect of the United States.”
