After 60 years, Trump opts for new inaugural parade announcer

Breaking with a tradition that began in 1957, President-elect Donald Trump proved once again that his presidency is going to be very different from his predecessors.

Charles Brotman, 89, has been the announcer for every inaugural parade since the election of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1957, but has learned that his services will not be required this year, WJLA-TV reported.

“I’ve been doing this for 60 years,” Brotman told the ABC affiliate, adding that he “was destroyed” when he first learned about the decision in an email.

But change can be good and there will always be that moment where it’s time to pass the baton, as melodramatic as it can be sometimes.

100% ‘proof’ Donald Trump did NOT mock a reporter with a disability

Freelance radio announcer Steve Ray has been selected to announce the inaugural parade on Jan. 20… not that the Trump inaugural team is being callous about the decision.

Presidential Inaugural Committee Director of Communications Boris Epshteyn said in a statement that Brotman will be honored for his many years of service.

“Since 1957, millions of Americans and countless entertainers have come to recognize Charlie Brotman as the voice of the inaugural parade,” Epshteyn said. “The Presidential Inaugural Committee will be proud to honor Charlie as Announcer Chairman Emeritus on January 20.”

“We are thrilled for Steve Ray to be introducing a new generation of Americans to the grand traditions of the inaugural parade.”
