Texas judge blocks federal transgender and abortion ‘protections,’ preserving religious freedom instead

A Texas federal judge said doctors should not be forced to treat transgender individuals if doing so violates their religious beliefs.

U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor blocked a federal rule that would not have allowed physicians to refuse to perform abortion services or treat transgender Obamacare patients, saying it “likely violates” the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, the AP reported.

In his ruling, Judge O’Connor wrote:

[The rules place] substantial pressure on Plaintiffs to perform and cover transition and abortion procedures.

Plaintiffs will be forced to either violate their religious beliefs or maintain their current policies, which seem to be in direct conflict with the Rule and risk the severe consequences of enforcement.

A Department of Health and Human Services regulation under ObamaCare “forbids discriminating on the basis of ‘gender identity’ and ‘termination of pregnancy.'”

The only problem with that is the geniuses at Facebook and other institutions decided that there are 58 different gender options.

In August 2016, the state of Texas sued the federal government, arguing that the regulations would force doctors to perform abortions or do gender-transition procedures on children even if doing so violates their religious beliefs.

Judge O’Connor sided with the state. The ruling was hailed by conservatives as a victory for religious freedom.

Liberals slammed the ruling, saying it legalizes discrimination against transgender individuals.

Reed O’Connor is the same judge who in August blocked the Obama Administration from implementing rules that would have allowed transgender students to use locker rooms and bathrooms that conform to whatever sex they identify with — whether or not it’s the sex of their birth.
