For many people, the end of 2016 cannot come soon enough.
In a year that saw police shootings, terror attacks and the death of one celebrity after another, not to mention the most contentious election campaign in modern memory, 2016 could be summed up with many choice words.
Friend Dog Studios has released a parody movie trailer that portrays the year as a horror film.
Beginning with a New Year’s Eve countdown scene from Dec. 31, 2015, the trailer goes on to cleverly highlight some of the most memorable news stories of the year as a suspense thriller.
“You wanna know who died today?” asked a voice in the video.
Pictures flashed by of those who we lost in 2016, including Prince, David Bowie, Muhammad Ali, and Gene Wilder. “We lost Leia,” a voice said, referring to the death of Carrie Fisher.
From exploding Samsung Galaxy S7 phones, the killing of Harambe the gorilla, Britain voting to leave the European Union and the election of Donald Trump, the year’s notable events seem perfectly terrifying when presented in this format.
“Do you think this is over? We’re just getting started,” the voiceover warned at the end.
The video, proving that truth is stranger than fiction, is the work of the comedy trio of Brian Huther, Ben Auxier, and Seth Macchi. It has been viewed more than one and a half million times since it was published on YouTube Wednesday.
