With a short time remaining in the White House, President Obama made two last-minute civil rights appointments that the liberal media has largely ignored.
The aggressive appointments to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights raised questions about the appointees and drew backlash from critics as the liberal media simply had a black-out on the move by Obama before he headed to Hawaii for Christmas vacation, according to The Daily Caller.

Obama’s last-minute push to give the appointees six-year terms prevents incoming President-elect Donald Trump from making any appointments of his own to the eight-person commission until 2020, when he would be up for reelection.

The divisive appointment of Debo Adegbile, a top lawyer for former Black Panther and convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, angered pro-police groups. Adegbile’s previous nomination to the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division was blocked by bipartisan group of senators
Sam Cabral, president of the International Union of Police Associations, called the appointment of Adegbile a “slap in the face to every law-enforcement officer in this great nation.” Republican Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey issued a statement calling on Obama to withdraw the appointment.
“Mr. Adegbile did not simply defend a client. He supervised an effort to lionize unrepentant cop-killer Mumia Abu Jamal, who cold-bloodedly murdered Philadelphia police officer Danny Faulkner 35 years ago,” Toomey said in the statement, according to the Daily Caller. “Mr. Adegbile supervised the effort to spread misinformation about the trial and evidence, fabricate claims of racism, malign Philly police, and organize rallies across the globe that portrayed this brutal cop-killer as the victim.”

Obama also appointed Catherine Lhamon, the assistant secretary for civil rights at the Department of Education. Lhamon was a key part of the president’s transgender mandate and also played a role in the now-infamous Rolling Stone hoax, according to the Daily Caller.
Obama’s press conference Friday overshadowed news of the appointments and neither Lhamon or Adegbile were even mentioned.
