Big box store Lowe’s created a social media sensation when one of its Texas locations hired a “two-man team” to fill an open position — one with two legs and the other with four.

When Air Force veteran Clay Luthy was out job hunting he was faced with a quandary.
“I was trying to figure out where I could go that would be a good fit and it wouldn’t mind having Charlotte, and my wife said I was at Lowe’s so much anyway, I might as well get a job there,” Luthy explained.
Charlotte is his service dog, and some establishments won’t even allow customers to bring in animals.
“I got her as a puppy. And she was never supposed to be a service dog. I found out a couple years ago she was alerting me and I didn’t even know it,” Luthy said of the 10-year-old yellow lab.
The Abilene home improvement store not only turned out to be the perfect choice, but also considered Charlotte an added bonus.
“Because they were the best person for the job. So, we went through the interview process and Clay and his own merit won the job. And we knew he was gonna make a great employee — we just got the benefit of getting Charlotte right along with him,” Jay Fellers, Lowe’s human resources manager, said.
But a photo taken by customer Judy Bechert Rose and placed on her Facebook page brought Luthy and Charlotte instant notoriety — a total surprise to Luthy.
“By the time I looked at it, there was 1,000 comments on it. Oh my gosh, it was ridiculous,” Luthy said. “I found a way to have a productive life and my prescription is four-legged.”
Since then the post has been shared nearly 200,000 times and has received more than 13,000 comments.

“I love Abilene Lowes, way to go!” Rose wrote on her post. “This is a disabled vet who struggled to get a job because he needs his service dog! Lowes hired them BOTH!!”
