Talk about overstaying your welcome…
It’s one thing to buy into the idea that controversy sells, but Newt Gingrich stepped over the line with a bizarre tweet Wednesday — the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor — that seemingly praised the Japanese.

On that “Day of Infamy,” more than 2,400 Americans lost their lives and another 1,100-plus were injured, yet Gingrich saw fit to compliment Japan for the “professional brilliance and technological power” that produced the deadly surprise attack.
December 7 is a good day to remember that the world is dangerous and shattering surprise is possible even when we have been warned.

One thing Gingrich accomplished with his strange comment was to stir up a lot of emotion from those who lost family members at Pearl Harbor, prompting social media users to demand an apology from the former speaker.

Here’s a sampling of the hammering from Twitter:
@newtgingrich This is a shameful think to post on Pearl Harbor day. 2,400 Americans lost their lives.

.@newtgingrich what the hell Newt? Who in their right mind would laud an Axis power about something like that, not to mention on this day.

.@newtgingrich 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded. Apologize for this statement immediately.

@newtgingrich Uh Newt, while that is technically correct, that is never the right thing to say on December 7.
