If there was any doubt where Kellyanne Conway stood on the prospect of Mitt Romney being named Secretary of State, she obliterated it on Sunday.
“I’m all for party unity, but I’m not sure we have to pay for that with the secretary of state position,” Conway, who served as Trump’s campaign manager, told Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
She said she had gotten messages from others who feel “betrayed” that the former Massachusetts governor, and one of the heads of the “Never Trump” movement, was being considered for the role.
“It’s just breathtaking in scope and intensity the type of messages I’ve received from all over the country,” she said. “The number of people who feel betrayed to think that Gov. Romney would get the most prominent Cabinet post after he went so far out of his way to hurt Donald Trump.”
Conway also questioned what Romney had done to be in contention for one of the crowned jewel positions of the president-elect’s cabinet.
“There was the Never Trump movement and then there was Mitt Romney he gave speeches against Donald Trump, he attacked his character,” she said.
“Has he been around the globe doing something on behalf of the United States of which we’re unaware?” Conway asked. “Did he go intervene in Syria where they’re having a massive crisis, meaning, when I say intervene, I mean offer to help?”
“Has he been helpful to Mr. Netanyahu?” she continued.
Conway said she would support Romney if President-elect Trump picked him but raised doubts about his loyalty.
“We don’t even know if Mitt Romney voted for Donald Trump,” she said.

In a tweet, CNN political commentator, Never Trumper Ana Navarro, questioned Conway’s reasons for publicly going on the attack against Romney.
Astounding to hear K. Conway, who has the ability to tell Trump privately, trash possibility of Romney as Sec of State publicly on @CNNSotu.

Conway promptly fired back.
I did tell him privately. And I’ll respect his decision. Point is the volume & intensity of grassroots resistance to Romney is breathtaking https://t.co/bknmfGZ13a

And Navarro said she believed Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee were part of a “coordinated attack” against Romney.
U think she’s 2nd guessing Trump? Acting rogue? Attacks on Romney not a solo act- Gingrich, Huckabee. Trump coordinated payback/humbling. https://t.co/efJw1uhVcW
