After a rocky speech at the Republican National Convention, Ted Cruz finally decided to endorse Donald Trump in September. And now, with only five days to go before election day, the Texas senator plans to put feet to his endorsement on Thursday by making his first official stops on behalf of the Republican nominee.
CNN reports that Cruz plans to appear with Indiana Governor Mike Pence at campaign rallies in Portage, Michigan and Prole, Iowa, and will warm up the crowds for Pence’s appearances.
Cruz has been campaigning for down ballot races in Colorado, Missouri, and Nevada, but this will be the first time he has campaigned for Trump and also the first time he has visited Iowa since his February caucus win.
On Monday, the Texas senator told reporters he voted for Trump and Republicans “down ballot” and encouraged others to do the same, telling reporters after he exited the booth, “I encourage conservatives to come out all across Houston, all across the State of Texas. It’s all about turnout and that’s why [we] need people to come out and vote. It’s why I voted early. You beat the lines on Election Day and you make your voice count.”
Glad to be in Springfield encouraging Missourians to GOTV for @RoyBluntMO and Republicans up and down the ballot! https://t.co/QxUOGnLzU9
