With only one week into the Sunshine State’s early voting period, the Republican Party of Florida has accused election officials of voter fraud in the state’s second-most populous county.
The state GOP is accusing Broward County election officials of opening tens of thousands of mail-in ballots prior to clearance for balloting.

Broward Country, which includes Fort Lauderdale, lies directly north of and adjacent to Miami-Dade County, and is considered to be a Democratic stronghold.
State Republican Chairman Blaise Ingoglia sent a warning letter Wednesday to Brenda Snipes, Broward County supervisor of elections. Fox News field correspondent Heather Lacy reported:

“Florida law prescribes that when the supervisor of elections takes in all these ballots, they have to be approved by the canvassing board,” Ingoglia told Fox News Channel’s Adam Shapiro.
He said that the officials lacked legal authority to open the ballot envelopes and would be filing a lawsuit the first thing Thursday morning if the RPOF receives no adequate reply.
“If there’s challenges [to ballots on Election Day] there will be nobody there to hear those challenges,” he said.
Florida is a key battleground state in the 2016 presidential election — one that Republican Donald Trump needs to win in order to secure the election. Also, Broward County was at the center of the 2000 presidential election “hanging chads” controversy.
The Republican Party of Florida told BPR Thursday morning, that they “have a team of lawyers on the ground working on it now.”
