Sen. Harry Reid may be mere months away from retirement, but that hasn’t stopped him from being his normal uber-partisan self.
This time his ire isn’t directed against a Republican candidate, but rather FBI Director James Comey for announcing that he’s re-opening his criminal investigation against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

In a scathing letter written Sunday, the Nevada Democrat said that Comey appeared to have “a clear intent to aid one political party over another,” and “may have broken the law” in doing so.
The Senate minority leader said that the actions Comey took Friday in making his announcement to Congress amounted to a possible violation of the Hatch Act.
“I am writing to inform you that my office has determined that these actions may violate the Hatch Act, which bars FBI officials from using their official authority to influence an election,” Reid wrote. “Through your partisan actions, you may have broken the law.”
Reid should know something about “partisan actions.” In 2012 he claimed — without evidence — that woe word was that then-GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney hadn’t paid any income taxes in years. When asked if he had any regrets about it after the election he said no, adding that it obviously worked.
Reid added that Comey’s “highly selective approach to publicizing information, along with your timing, was intended for the success or failure of a partisan candidate or political group.”
The Nevada senator must have been fine with Comey’s announcement in July that he wouldn’t recommend charges against Clinton.

Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Rep. Jason Chaffetz disagreed with Reid’s legal opinion.
“Director Comey is updating his previous testimony, and he should do that,” the Utah Republican told The Wall Street Journal. “Hillary Clinton can only blame herself for this mess. She created this problem, not Director Comey.”

Sen. Tom Cotton took to Twitter to express his opinion. The Arkansas Republican called Reid “a disgrace to American politics,” a feeling shared by most Republicans.
Harry Reid is a disgrace to American politics, among worst men ever in Senate. He can’t go soon enough, & many Democrats privately agree. https://t.co/4lCKx5pKi4

Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, called Reid “a hack.”
“Thank God he’s leaving is my initial reaction,” the South Carolina Republican told Fox News anchor Bret Baier. “Anyone capable of sending that press release has to be under the influence of something.”
