Hillary Clinton made a PSA on cybersecurity! See what she said to State Dept. employees

Hillary Clinton is seen in a newly obtained video lecturing her State Department staff to do exactly what she was not doing herself.

The 2010 video, which was obtained by FoxNews.com, shows then-Secretary of State Clinton warning staff about cyber security attacks and their “special duty” to protect against them.

“The real key to cybersecurity rests with you,” Clinton said. “Complying with department computing policies and being alert to potential threats will help protect all of us.”

Clinton delivered the video message, pointing to the important work the State Department Bureau of Diplomatic Security and IT department do to guard against attacks, at a time when she was using a private email server to conduct State Department business.

In the video, she gave examples of types of cyber attacks and how systems can be hacked, directing the staffers to log onto the internal cybersecurity awareness website or subscribe to the “cybersecurity awareness newsletter.”

“Protecting our cyber infrastructure and digital networks has to be a matter of national security,” she said. “I think this is a responsibility we all share as Americans. But as State Department employees we have a special duty to guard ourselves and our sensitive information.”

Clinton directed the staffers to follow the policies and practices she herself apparently did not.

“Hillary Clinton needs only to look into the mirror to find the biggest cyber security risk,” House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz told Foxnews.com,

Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon said these types of warnings were “more than appropriate” at the time.

“This is not new. It has been widely reported that during Clinton’s tenure the State Department issued these kinds of warnings about possible cybersecurity to employees. These warnings were more than appropriate given that it was subsequently confirmed that State’s email was hacked.”

Clinton concluded in the video message: “Together we can do our part to improve the security of the State Department and of our nation.”

But as reports of classified information being sent through a private email server subsequently revealed, she did not appear to follow her own advice.
