A former contestant on the NBC show “The Apprentice” has stepped forward in defense of Donald Trump, despite the fact that she said he kissed her.
Jennifer Murphy spoke to CNN‘s Erin Burnett after she told Grazia Magazine, in an article published Wednesday, that the Republican presidential nominee kissed her when she was a contestant on the fourth season of the hit reality show.
The former Miss Oregon, who said she first met the billionaire businessman at the Miss USA beauty pageant, heaped praise on Trump and said she is voting for him on Election Day.
Murphy explained how Trump fought for her to be on his show and praised her sharp business mind after executive producer Mark Burnett wanted to cut her.
But Burnett wasn’t satisfied with Murphy’s glowing praise for Trump and kept pressing her to talk about the kiss which, it was apparent, Murphy saw as a sign of affection and not a sexual assault. And she let the CNN host know she was angry about her focus.
“This is something that frustrates me about media and journalism,” an agitated Murphy said Friday.
“Yes, he kissed me on the lips,” she said. “It was a small kiss after he had fired me on the show. He called me the next day and said that he still want to give me an opportunity to work for him. So after several meetings he walked me to the elevator at one point, and he did reach in and give me a little kiss. I was a little surprised but I wasn’t offended. I could have turned away.
“I really think that we need to take these incidents into account and make sure that we don’t let the media spin anything out of control and put words in our mouths”
