The 2016 presidential election silly season arrived early and has never really went away, with everything but the kitchen sink being thrown against the wall against Donald Trump to see if it sticks.
The latest example of this is the story that Trump reportedly called deaf actress Marlee Matlin “retarded” when she appeared on “The Apprentice.”
Never mind the allegation only became a story after three former Celebrity Apprentice staffers hiding behind the cloak of anonymity told a liberal news outlet about it in the heat of the election.
The three say Trump treated Matlin as if she were mentally disabled and while some of the insults were supposedly behind her back, they said he also made offensive remarks right in front of her.
“[Trump] would often equate that she was mentally retarded,” one of the unidentified former staffers said.
Matlin responded to the charges Friday by posting a carefully worded statement on social media that did little to substantiate the claims:

In the end, while Trump may or may not have been obnoxious, this is a totally one-sided story nobody can know the context of.
Even in her statement above, the actress hedged her reaction enough to recognize that it may be gossip.
More importantly, Matlin never has anything bad to say about Trump. In fact, she went so far in the past as to say Trump was “always looking after her.”

Matlin told the New York Post last year that Trump had treated her with ‘respect and humor’ and was ‘always looking after her’ while she was on the show.
The actress, who has been a vocal supporter of her ‘friend’ Hillary Clinton, also told the paper she didn’t ‘follow his politics’.
When asked if she could see the Donald becoming the next Commander-in-chief, Matlin simply said: ‘Anyone can run for president!’
Both Trump and Matlin declined to comment on the Daily Beast story. The staffers remained anonymous due to extensive non-disclosure agreements.
It all borders on insanity and suggests that Matlin may want to consider making a few amends to the statement.
