Trump keeps promise to live tweet the debate; kicks it off with tweet to Megyn Kelly

Donald Trump used Twitter Tuesday night to live tweet not only his own perspective of this campaign’s vice presidential debate, but to offer that of journalists and political pundits.

And everyone agreed — the laid back Republican Indiana Gov. Mike Pence looked the most comfortable and dominated the stage, leaving his opponent, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine in the dust.

The Republican presidential nominee’s live tweet plans drew some ribbing from Fox News host Megyn Kelly, who thought his team — led by campaign manager Kellyanne Conway — would control what went out. Not so, said Trump.

The ribbing and Trump’s response didn’t go unobserved.

Here’s Trump’s appraisal of each candidate’s openings statements.

Pence observed that there was a huge difference between his running of Indiana versus Kaine’s running of Virginia during the years he occupied the governor’s mansion. And Trump noticed.

The conclusion from the two candidate’s records was obvious.

OK, Pence won that round on jobs and the economy. How about law and order? No contest.

And just like all the other issues, Kaine lost big-time on the war on terror. But it wasn’t entirely his fault — he had nothing but a record of failure to fall back on.

And before the night was through one of Hillary Clinton’s lines came back to haunter and her running mate. All Kaine could do was to grin and bear it.

Trump observed that he wasn’t alone in praising his running mate’s performance. Journalists agreed that Pence won the head-to-head contest hands down.

Here are a few examples:

“Mike Pence Direct To Camera And Conversational = Winning.” –The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza

“Pence’s Quiet Demeanor, Pauses And Verbal Ticks Convey Thoughtfulness .. . Pence’s Steady Speaking Style Makes Kaine’s Interruptions All The More Jarring.” –Time’s Zeke Miller

“Kaine Is So Bad At This.” –The Daily Beast’s Olivia Nuzz

“9:18 And Pence Is Dominating This Debate.” –The New York Times Michael Barbaro

It was all in all a successful night for the Republican Party.
