In a bombshell revelation, newly released FBI documents reveal that Hillary Clinton‘s State Department chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, had asked about “wiping computer data.”
Clinton’s email server technician, Bryan Pagliano, had told FBI investigators in his Dec. 22 interview that in 2009 or 2010 he had raised concerns about Clinton’s use of a personal email server but Mills had dismissed them, according to notes released by the FBI on Friday, The Daily Caller reported.
The revelation followed news that Mills was granted immunity by the Justice Department in exchange for her cooperation with the FBI’s email probe of then-secretary of state Clinton.
Mills had called him in the fall of 2013 “and inquired about the effectiveness of two types of software for wiping computer data,” Pagliano, who was also granted immunity, told the FBI. Although he could not specifically recall the two types of software, he described the difference between “bit” wiping and deleting emails.
He also told investigators that Mills, who now serves as Clinton’s attorney, dismissed his concerns that Clinton’s private email server violated the State Department’s federal records retention policy.
During her own April 9 interview with the FBI, Mills was asked about Pagliano’s statements.
“Mills may have had conversations with Bryan Pagliano concerning the Federal Records Act, but she was not sure,” the report read.
“Mills met with Pagliano frequently. Mills did not recall any conversations with [redacted] concerning Clinton’s use of a private server and/or the Federal Records Act.”
