After two days of R&R, Hillary Clinton is back on the stump and STILL talking about rival Donald Trump’s “deplorable” supporters, which leaves one to wonder if the Democratic nominee may have hit her noggin when she fell headfirst into a van on Sunday.
After being roundly criticized for saying “you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables,” Clinton went back to the narrative in an interview on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” airing on Thursday, The Hill reported.
She also ramped up her attacks on Trump, accusing the GOP nominee of “inciting violence.”
Insisting the country needs to “bring people together” to heal the divides in America — divides largely manufactured by the Democratic Party — Clinton fell back on previous claims that Trump is racist and a bigot.
“But it starts by standing up and calling out the bigotry and the hatred that we see coming from Trump,” she said. “He has incited violence and he has been more than willing to align himself with the so-called Alt Right and everything deplorable thing they represent.”
“I’m going to keep calling out the bigotry and hateful rhetoric that he’s brought to this campaign, because I don’t think you can make our country great by tearing people down,” Clinton added.
At the same time, Trump continues his outreach to black voters, speaking Wednesday at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Flint, Michigan.
According to Clinton’s quickly shrinking lead in national polls, it appears that Trump is winning out here, which gives credence to the views of some Democrats think Clinton needs to pivot to other issues.
