Et tu, Apple?
Apparently Hillary Clinton has friends at Apple Computer Company, who see nothing wrong with covering for her. Donald Trump, her Republican rival for the presidency, isn’t afforded the same service, however.
“Hide it Hillary,” is a satirical mobile game aimed at Clinton, but was initially denied access to Apple’s App Store.
The game’s description states:
The Feds are on to Hillary and it’s time for you to help hide her tracks! Sift through her countless e-mails and “reorganize” them by sending them to the appropriate places. Build your “Warchest” with “donations” by properly filtering those documents or end up in the slammer for not being shady enough. Be warned, we have to do this clean and not accidentally end up with that pesky classified information in the not-so-classified personal laptop. It’s time to Hide it!
Sounds like fun, huh? Not to Apple.
The reason the folks at Apple gave for denying access to the game was it “includes content that could be considered defamatory or mean-spirited,” according to Heat Street.
However, titles like “Punch Trump,” “Slap Donald Trump,” and “Smack a Trump” all got the green light.
After Heat Street reported Apple’s foot-dragging, the app was available for 99 cents at the iTunes store and earned multiple 5-star reviews.
One reviewer said, “So this game is hilarious. I love the fact that these emails are exactly the ones from the FBI findings; really makes the setting more realistic. Careful! Don’t let the Gov find out what you’re doing!! Lol!”
The developers called the disapproval of the Clinton app versus the ready acceptance of the Trump apps a definite “double standard.”
“I absolutely believe there’s a double standard with Apple in the sense that they have defamatory and mean-spirited Trump games available for download but none for Hillary,” developers Ansem Omega Solutions told Heat Street.
“I can’t imagine we are the first developers to experience this type of bias. In fact, one of the main reasons we chose to develop a Hillary app is because there were no Hillary apps whatsoever in the store 6 months ago when we began developing.”
In addition, the game’s approval from Google took the developers less than an hour; it took eight hours before they got Apple’s denial.
