Milo Yiannopoulos was unapologetic as he battled with an ABC reporter over a recent controversy he sparked when attacking a Hollywood star.
“Are you a troll?” ABC News reporter Terry Moran asked Yiannopoulos on “Nightline” Thursday.
“Of course” Yiannopoulos replied.
The conservative online provocateur and technology editor for Breitbart News is no stranger to controversy. He was permanently banned from Twitter after he called actress Leslie Jones, the “Saturday Night Live” and “Ghostbusters” star a “dude” and said she was “barely literate.” When Jones reported him, Yiannopoulos accused her of “playing the victim.”
“If Leslie Jones were right here, would you say ‘you look like a dude’?” Moran asked Yiannopoulos.
“Yeah, probably” he replied.
“You would say that to her?” Moran asked again.
“I probably would,” Yiannopoulos said.
“Then you’re an idiot, really,” Moran said.
When asked why he didn’t tell his followers to stop their attacks on Jones, Yiannopoulos said he was not responsible for what others said or did, asking Moran if he would blame other celebrities for their fans’ actions. “I’m sorry for being popular but I am not responsible for what 350,000 people need to say,” he said.
“You’re gonna go after somebody’s body to denigrate their ideas?” Yiannopoulos said, “Absolutely.”
“What grade are you in?” Moran retorted. “Seriously. Are you a 13-year-old boy?”
In the fiery interview, Yiannopoulos also commented on “body positivity,” focusing on plus-size comedian Amy Schumer.
“It is insisted upon us that we all pay obeisance to the cult of Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer that are put on the cover of magazines, and we’re all expected to pretend that we like them” he said. “Well, we don’t.”
“Not very much makes me laugh with Amy Schumer,” Yiannopoulos continued. “These are terrible, talentless people that we are instructed we must like, and the sort of sub-text is that if you don’t like them you’re some kind of bigot somehow.”
Yiannopoulos also commented that Twitter “should” re-instate his account which is an example, he believes. of how conservatives are discriminated against.
“I think they should be honest with users,” he suggested. “They should say if you’re conservative, and too funny and too effective and too much of a threat, which is what I am, then sooner or later you’re going to lose your account.”
