Colin Kaepernick is going to have to get used to boos if he wants to continue his protest of the national anthem.
And to that end the San Diego Chargers fans really helped the San Francisco 49ers quarterback get a feel for what his season is going to sound like on Thursday night.
As the Chargers celebrated “Salute to the Military” night, Kaepernick took a knee, a deviation from his previous decision to sit, while a black Navy veteran sang the national anthem.
But the fans in San Diego didn’t give a damn about whatever convoluted reasons Kaepernick had for sitting, or kneeling, and the booed him mercilessly for the entire time he was on the field Thursday.
He was booed from the moment he ran on to the field to start the game until he was removed from the game to start the second half even though he did stand and applaud the military.

He was booed for all 34 plays he participated in.
After the game he explained that taking a knee was “compromise” he came to after speaking with former Green Beret and long snapper Nate Boyer.
“We were talking to him about how can we get the message back on track and not take away from the military, not take away from pride in our country but keep the focus on what the issues really are,” Kaerpnick told ESPN. “As we talked about it, we came up with taking a knee because there are issues that still need to be addressed and there was also a way to show more respect for the men and women that fight for this country.”
“Once again, I’m not anti-American,” Kaepernick said. “I love America. I love people. That’s why I’m doing this. I want to help make America better.”
“I think what I did was taken out of context and spun a different way,” he later told reporters.
Yeah, sure.
The fans in San Diego, angered by his stance and, likely, by his decision to wear socks that depicted cops as pigs during practice weeks ago, didn’t care.
His protest is starting to spread as he was joined by his teammate Eric Reid and, in Oakland before the home town Raiders took on the Seattle Seahawks, Jeremy Lane, a Seahawks cornerback , sat for the national anthem.
