Four tiny Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) boats “harassed” the U.S. warship USS Nitze operating in international waters near the Strait of Hormuz Tuesday.
A Defense Department official told Reuters Wednesday on condition of anonymity that two of the boats came within 300 yards during the high-speed runs in a manner that was clearly “unsafe and unprofessional.”

The harassment consisted of the Iranian boats “conducting a high speed intercept and closing within a short distance of Nitze, despite repeated warnings,” the official told Reuters.
NBC Nightly News social editor Mitch Grimes posted a video of the incident, in which one can clearly hear the destroyer sounding five short blasts of its horn, the international maritime danger signal , as a sailor announces warnings on the radio.

Many saw the harassment of the guided missile destroyer as yet another indication of the weakness of the Obama administration’s foreign policy.
