Deportation ‘to be determined’: Team says reports Trump reversed himself on border policy are false

Refuting a report that Donald Trump has reversed his position on immigration, U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions appeared on “Fox & Friends Weekend” to insist that the GOP nominee “has not changed his views.”

The Alabama Republican, the first member of the Senate to endorse Trump, was responding to a BuzzFeed article that claimed Trump said in a Saturday meeting with his newly announced Hispanic advisory council that he is interested in a “humane and efficient” way to deal with the 12 million-plus illegal immigrants in the United States.

“He had a great meeting with people who had different ideas as I understand,” Sessions said Sunday. “I wasn’t there, but he had a good discussion. He listened to all the different views.”

But he said following the law remains a priority.

“Look, we need a lawful system of immigration. Trump is absolutely clear and correct on that,” Sessions told host Tucker Carlson. “We must end the lawlessness first. We can’t talk about these other issues until that occurs. I think that remains his firm position.”

Carlson asked Sessions if Trump is still committed to deporting illegal immigrants already in the U.S..

“Well, I don’t know that he formally said that. He discussed that, other people discussed that,” he replied. “I’m not sure that’s the best solution to the problem, but it’s one solution.”

New campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday that Trump plans to release his immigration plan in the next few weeks. When asked if it will include forced deportation, she replied, “To be determined.”
