US Army general says Obama’s briefer told CENTCOM official to alter intel on ISIS

Retired U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Anthony Tata says Obama administration officials are fudging the facts to make it look as though it is winning to war on terror against the Islamic State militants.

During his appearance on Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” Tata said that Obama “didn’t want to do anything to counter that narrative” that pulling out of Iraq was the right thing to do, despite widespread “chaos all over the Middle East.”

In response to the president’s narrative running counter to reality,  Tata said Monday that “mostly good, hard-working people” within Central Command were saying “Houston, we have a problem.”

The general said a meeting between Pentagon officials and Office of the Director of National Intelligence came about as a result.

Tata’s source at that meeting “was told by the president’s briefer to not provide ‘product of record’ … that is counter to the narrative that the president is putting out there.”

Consequently, “we actually turn the other way because of that, and then two years later we have a problem — a real problem,” he said. “That two years has allowed ISIS to take root.”

“Highly irresponsible” is how Tata described the administration’s actions.

“Now we’ve got a real national security threat that was born out of this directive to Central Command.”

Tata said he wasn’t sure at what level the directive came from.

“It could have been the president saying, ‘Don’t tell me this.’ Or it could have been the briefer going back after a rough meeting saying, ‘Hey look, don’t give me anymore of this stuff. I don’t want to bring it to the president.'”
