A destructive line of thunderstorms that have remained stationary over the gulf coast states has resulted in widespread flash flooding, and has taken the lives of at least three people in Louisiana.
But two lives that the flooding Baton Rouge waters didn’t claim were those of a young woman and her canine companion, whose daring rescue in the nick of time was captured on video.
Although she can’t be seen initially, she can be heard crying, “Oh my god, I’m drowning,” WAFB reported.
After the woman was rescued from the sinking car, she told her rescuer that her dog was still in the vehicle and pleaded to have him brought up also.

And so the rescuer, later identified as David Phong, did exactly that — and he actually had to dive under the muddy water to find the little dog.

Fox News reported:
In a 24-hour period, Baton Rouge reported as much as 11.34 inches of rain. One weather observer reported to the National Weather Service that 17.09 inches fell in Livingston.
The Comite River near Baton Rouge and Amite River near Denham Springs, both in Louisiana, were predicted to set record crests over the weekend. Forecaster Alek Krautmann said both rivers could flood many houses in suburban areas near Baton Rouge.
And the woman’s little dog wasn’t the only creature pulled to safety. Fox News reported than more than 100 pets were snatched from the jaws of death by rescuers, according to Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards.
