The so-called “conservative” #NeverTrump crowd looked in every cave, behind every tree and under every rock for a candidate to derail Donald Trump’s candidacy, to no avail. None of the former Republican candidates were willing. Mitt Romney wouldn’t do it. Even National Review columnist David French avoided the Bill Kristol siren call, deciding he’d rather keep writing columns than become a national laughingstock (go figure).
It’s a no-win situation, of course. Anyone with half a brain knows that. George Will and Bill Kristol know that, despite what they blather on the cable news channels. There is absolutely ZERO chance a third-party candidate will win the presidency in 2016, end of discussion. I’d bet my house on it, and so would those guys if they could, their words notwithstanding.
But the discussion doesn’t end there, does it? Enter ex-CIA operative, ex-Goldman Sachs employee, ex-chief policy director of the House Republican Conference (read: Washington insider) Evan McMullin, whose long-shot #NeverTrumper bid for the Presidency seems to be solely inspired not by a love for country, or a wish for America to become a better place, but by a seemingly pathological desire for Hillary Clinton to defeat the Republican nominee in November.
I don’t know the man. Before this news came out I’d never heard his name, but since he’s put himself in the limelight now, and especially since the mainstream media and the backstabbers on the right seem so hellbent on pinning the worst possible motives out of even the slightest Donald Trump misspeak or gaffe, I’m going to go ahead and assume a few things about our ex-CIA, ex-Goldman Sachs third-party presidential hopeful, Mr. McMullin. I hope that’s OK.
First of all, I’m going to assume he is a smart guy. That’s generous, I know, given that he’s just volunteered to send Crocket and Bowie packing and fight the Battle of the Alamo all by himself, but one doesn’t become a CIA operative or a Goldman Sachs employee by being stupid. (Sure, one doesn’t endear himself to ordinary Americans who might see these entities as less than friendly to their interests either, but that’s not the goal, is it?)
Second, I’m going to assume that Evan McMullin is a sane individual. Yet another generous assessment, I know, but bear with me. Just because the man has arguably the second most punchable face in America next to Ted Cruz does NOT make him crazy. And besides, again, the CIA and Goldman Sachs probably have standing policies against hiring certifiably insane individuals.
Third, based on the premises that McMullin is intelligent, non-crazy, and that a third-party victory is impossible, and also based on the fact that his supporters have acknowledged that his candidacy only intends to try to derail Trump in typically red states like Utah, I’m going to go ahead and assume that Mr. Evan McMullin is an America-hating, sharia-loving, open-borders encouraging, Hillary-shilling globalist douchebag who, at BEST, just wants his 15-seconds of fame. At worst, he wants to help his globalist masters usher in an age of tyranny unknown to the modern era.
I think those are pretty fair assumptions, wouldn’t you say?
I’m with Sean Hannity on this. The #NeverTrump movement used to be somewhat understandable Bernie-supporter-like sour grapes at their boy Cruz’s loss. It was supposed to last until the convention and fizzle out in favor of some realistic pragmatism. But now, as their numbers have dwindled with sane folks leaving for, well, saner pastures, the ones who are left are basically like those wild-eyed bearded guys on the street corner waving “Repent!” signs and shouting at passers-by. Just hold your bag, don’t make eye contact, and keep moving along…
In the end, Evan McMullin probably won’t affect the course of the election either way. But the fact that he and his supporters are trying so hard to literally put Hillary Clinton in the White House should NEVER be forgotten, and however this election turns out the influence these people once had should be gone, forever discredited in the eyes of ordinary Americans who want to take their country back.
Mr. McMullin, I hope your 15-seconds of fame was worth it.
