German intelligence services say Islamic State “hit squads” have entered Europe posing as Syrian and Iraqi refugees.
“The risk is abstract, but very high,” Manfred Hauser, the vice president of the Bavaria region’s intelligence gathering agency, BayLfV, told BBC Radio 4. “We have to accept that we have hit squads and sleeper cells in Germany.”
The Express reported:
Last month, 15 people were injured when a Syrian asylum seeker blew himself up at a music festival in Ansbach.
Following this, another man attacked passengers on a train with an axe. Both of these attacks were found to have been inspired by ISIS.
Following other terrorist incidents in France and Belgium, Germany has now laid out a security crackdown to wipe out the Islamist terror threat.
“We have substantial reports that among the refugees there are hit squads. There are hundreds of these reports, some from refugees themselves. We are still following up on these, and we haven’t investigated all of them fully,” Hauser continued.
“But we have irrefutable evidence that there is an ISIS command structure that makes an attack in Germany very likely.”
Despite increased pushback from conservatives, President Obama has continued to admit refugees from war-torn regions of the Middle East.
