The Hillary Clinton campaign has fired back at accusations that the Democrat nominee had anything to do with the execution of an Iranian nuclear scientist, and instead somehow found a way to put the onus on Donald Trump.
Shahram Amiri, whose name was mentioned on Hillary Clinton’s private email server and referred to as a “friend,” was executed last week by Iran on charges of spying for the United States.
Sunday on “Face The Nation,” Sen. Tom Cotton put the blame in Clinton’s lap.
“I’m not going to comment on what he may or may not have done for the United States government, but in the emails that were on Hillary Clinton’s private server, there were conversations among her senior advisors about this gentleman,” he told host John Dickerson.
“That goes to show just how reckless and careless her decision was to put that kind of highly classified information on a private server. And I think her judgment is not suited to keep this country safe,” he added.
On Monday the Clinton camp released a statement chastising Trump.
“The Trump campaign has never met a conspiracy theory it didn’t like. He and his supporters continue to use increasingly desperate rhetoric to attack Hillary Clinton and make absurd accusations because they have no ideas for the American people,” a Clinton spokesperson wrote. “It’s pretty remarkable to baselessly claim that Hillary Clinton is responsible for this tragic death.”
