Despite the media’s insistence otherwise, the Republican National Committee strongly denied reports that the GOP is looking at the possibility of replacing Donald Trump should he decide to drop out of the presidential race.
Never mind that the unlikely occurrence some in the media have dubbed the doomsday scenario has never before happened.
RNC strategist Sean Spicer dismissed all the hoopla as a “media-pundit concoction,” saying Trump will be on the ballot in November, according to The Hill.
“Donald Trump is the nominee of the Republican Party full-stop,” Spicer said. “That’s the reality. The rest is just a media-pundit concoction.”
He insisted no effort is underway to find a way to replace Trump or to pressure him to drop out.
Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort also blamed the media for all the turmoil.
Touting the campaign’s $80 million haul in July, Manafort said they’re focused on expanding operations in key battleground states, The Hill reported.
He also dismissed persistent reports that an “intervention” is in the works after a week marked by Trump feuding with the Muslim parents of a slain U.S. soldier and refusing to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan — RNC Chairman Reince Priebus is said to be “furious” with Trump for straying off message.
“The only need we have for an intervention is maybe with some media types who keep saying things that aren’t true,” Manafort said.
The Hill said the campaign and the RNC are in “crisis mode,” and reported an inside source said Manafort and Trump’s adult children are “distraught” over Trump’s inability to stay focused on rival Hillary Clinton.
“They’re all working on him,” the source claimed. “He’ll say ‘yes’, but then he’ll go out and get provoked or start talking stream of consciousness … they’re hopeful, Paul’s hopeful and the family’s hopeful that they will get him back on track and that’s about all I can tell you.”
