Former Obama official shows up at the DNC — and is greeted by a wave of boos

Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta was hit with a chorus of boos while speaking Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention.

Panetta, who served less than two years under President Barack Obama, was doing his best to criticize GOP nominee Donald Trump, but many in the crowd — see unruly Bernie Sanders supporters — made the task difficult as they started chanting “no more war” and “lies.”

Adding to the cacophony, Hillary Clinton supporters began a competing chant of “USA, USA.”

“Today, Donald Trump once again took Russia’s side,” Panetta said. “He asked the Russians to engage in American politics. Think about that for a moment. Donald Trump wants to be president of the United States … is asking one of our adversaries to engage in hacking or intelligence efforts against the United States of America to affect an election.”

And that’s when the boos began to rain down.

That Panetta was selected to speak the same night as President Obama was an interesting choice by planners, given that the former CIA director blasted the president on his leadership in his 2014 memoir, “Worthy Fights,” saying Obama “relies on the logic of a law professor rather than the passion of a leader.”

Here’s another clip of the resistance Panetta was up against:
