One of Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential options has a lot more in common with her than just politics. He too is also now skirting federal law thanks to special treatment.
Julian Castro, the secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), broke federal law when he gave an interview to Yahoo News’ Katie Couric and made multiple political statements while presenting himself in an official capacity.
This alone is a violation of the Hatch Act, something that Castro has now even admitted too, but President Obama says he will let him off the hook since he fessed up to the rule-breaking.
“I think, to his credit, Secretary Castro acknowledged the mistake that he made,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest.
“He owned up to it, and he’s taken the necessary steps to prevent it from happening again,” Earnest told reporters.
“I think that’s the expectation that people have when you make a mistake, particularly in a situation like this.”
Clinton similarly skirted federal law when she mishandled classified and top-secret emails as Secretary of State.
This claim was later confirmed by FBI Director James Comey, who then admitted that he would not suggest criminal charges because he did not find any “intent” Clinton was trying to break the law.
