After FBI Director Comey rips Hillary as ‘extremely careless,’ Obama slams Clinton State Dept.

In the aftermath of FBI Director’ James Comey’s assessment, President Obama expressed concern over the State Department’s sloppy and cavalier handling of classified information during the years Hillary Clinton was secretary of state.

When asked about the director’s comments at a Saturday news conference, Obama said, “I am concerned,” according to Reuters.

He added that “The advent of email and texts and smart phones is just generating enormous amounts of data,” and said it was “putting enormous pressure on the department to sort through it, classify it properly.”

Obama claimed, however, that if too much information is classified, the benefits of the information can be lost due to overly extended process times.

“It reflects a larger problem in government,” he said.

Although Comey fell short of recommending that charges be brought against Clinton, he nonetheless found that her handling of classified information was “extremely careless” and the department’s “use of unclassified systems in particular, was generally lacking in the kind of care for classified information that’s found elsewhere in the U.S. government.”

Comey refuted Clinton’s oft-repeated claim that she had never sent nor received classified information. She eventually admitted that her use of a private email server was a mistake.

At the same time Comey delivered his findings, Obama accompanied Clinton at a North Carolina campaign rally.
