Watch: Concealed carry gun owner ‘reaches for wallet,’ shot dead by police in Falcon heights [graphic]

An apparent concealed-carry gun owner was shot and killed by police in Minnesota on Wednesday and the man’s girlfriend livestreamed on Facebook the harrowing moments immediately afterwards.

“They killed my boyfriend,” the woman says at one point.

In the video, Lavish Reynolds said they were pulled over for a “busted taillight” and that her boyfriend, Philando Castile, was shot when he reached for his wallet after being asked to produce his license and registration. Her 4-year-old daughter is in the back seat of the vehicle as Reynolds recounts what had just happened.

Reynolds explained in the video that Castile, 32, told the St. Anthony Police he had a conceal-and-carry permit and was carrying a firearm.

“I told him not to reach for it,” a highly distressed cop said while pointing his weapon into the vehicle. “I told him to get his hand off it.”

“You told him to get his I.D., sir, his driver’s license,” Reynolds told the officer before pointing the camera at Castile, who is seen covered in blood.

“Oh my God, please don’t tell me he’s dead,” she said. “Please don’t tell me my boyfriend just went like that.”

“You shot four bullets into him, sir,” Reynolds added. “He was just getting his license and registration, sir.”

Castile died later that evening at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to WCCO-TV.

Toward the end of the video, before being taken into custody, Reynolds pleads for help from Facebook viewers, prompting her daughter to say, “It’s OK, mama. It’s OK, I’m right here with you.”

Little is known other than the details Reynolds offered in the video and witness accounts are not always proven to be reliable, as was realized in the Michael Brown case when it was determines that “hands up, don’t shoot” never happened.

About 200 people gathered at the shooting site in Falcon Heights and protesters later began to gather at the Governor’s Mansion in St. Paul, WCCO-TV reported.

The reaction on social media was swift, with plenty of charges of racism and police brutality… here’s a quick sampling of responses from Twitter:
