New York columnist blasted for demanding ‘God Bless America’ be banned from baseball

New York Daily News writer Gersh Kuntzman is being blasted on social media after calling on Major League Baseball “to stop blessing America during the seventh-inning stretch.”

Following 9/11, MLB had teams play “God Bless America” and many teams continue the practice to this very day, but Kuntzman wants the patriotic song banned, saying it “offends everyone” and embodies the “worst things” about America.

If Kuntzman’s name sounds familiar, it should… he’s the liberal girly-man who complained about being “terrified” when he fired an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle. He whined that the recoil hurt his shoulder and that “the explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD.”

He would later be showed up by a 7-year-old girl.

“It’s time for God to stop blessing America during the seventh-inning stretch,” Kuntzman said in an op-ed published Thursday, taking exception that “fans are asked to rise, remove their caps and place them over their hearts.”

He said the song is “as divisive as American politics,” before noting that “research found that 83.8 percent of people who described themselves as ‘very liberal’ dislike the song” — Kuntzman doesn’t seem to grasp that these same 83.8 percent are WHY American politics are so divisive.

Kuntzman, like any good liberal activist would, concluded his liberal diatribe with a call to action.

“So this July 4, join me at the Church of Baseball by not rising and not doffing your cap for a song that is not the national anthem of a nation that is not uniquely blessed by some deity that doesn’t exist anyway,” he declared.

As for the blow back, it is pretty intense… here’s a sampling from Twitter:
